I have supported Teens and their Parents for over 15 years.
The teenage years can be a challenging period of transition and change, for both parent and child. At times teenagers and parents may feel at a total loss of how to communicate and understand what is happening. Be reassured that this is all normal.
During the teenage years, the emotional area of the brain develops sooner than the part of the brain needed for self control and decision making, as a result it can be easier for emotionally driven or risk-taking behaviours to overtake rational thinking. This can make teens confused on reflection, and parents wonder where this behaviour has come from.
Social media, school life, friendship groups, hormone charged bodily changes, topped with romantic experiences, play a major part in affecting how a teen shows up and how parents respond.
Teenagers feel mis-understood and often confused. They struggle to understand their emotions and reactions and the changes they feel they have no control over.
I coach teenagers to support them in progressing through this period, giving them the space to plan, navigate and reflect. We work together to reveal the opportunities they can create to feel in control and to use their skills to flourish towards adulthood.
Parents often say to me that they have ‘lost’ their child during these years. They choose to be coached by me to uncover a deeper understanding of how they can support their teens. They can find hope and strategies to combat conflicts and nurture their child during this time. Parents feel empowered by the uncovering of these skills and can feel more confident & empathetic when faced with the challenges during this inevitable time.
Sam has helped me come to terms with some challenging milestones in my life and has aided me through some of my teenage years, enabling me to understand how to overcome these difficulties. Her coaching is practiced in a respectful and delicate manner and her style made me think about the reasons why I was feeling the way I was. Whether I was dealing with changes due to being a teenage, or general life factors and worries, I would leave her sessions with questions to think about that helped me to process lifes challenges. I genuinely believe without the help and guidance from Sam, I wouldn’t be where I am today and achieving things in my life, such as university. She is one of the most understanding, mindful and supportive people you could ever wish to meet and I have gained so many life lessons from her
